It’s that time again. That one time a year where we all choose a mantra to live by… we all set goals to loose weight, get healthy, and be a better person. I am more of a person that sets new goals every week but there is something refreshing about a new year of possibilities.
Reality
But lets be honest for a moment. Most of the goals we have set will be done for by January 21st… literally the saddest day of the year. Statistically, it’s the day that New Years Resolutions have all been broken, forgotten, and lost until the next year. It’s very sad really.
I have only set three “resolutions” for the new year… and they all focus on relationships. Sure I have dreams, aspirations, and goals for this little hobby of mine. But relationships matter… We are created for genuine relationships.
We Need Each Other
No matter where you are at in life you need your people, your tribe. And that group needs to really be there. Not just people who read your posts on your Facebook wall… I am talking authentic relationships. People who keep you accountable, love you amongst your flaws, and who encourage you to be a better person.
In college a friend of mine once said something like,
“We have become the most “socially” connected generation due to social media. However, we have become the most socially disconnected, lonely, and depressed generation.”
My challenge to you is to be more present this year. Connect face to face with real people… Love others. Worry less about how many likes you have on social media and focus more on how many people you can call family. And as always, thank you for reading my post. It was a little deeper than I intended to go… but I hope it spoke to you!
xoxo,
Mandy
