Kitchens are the heart of the home and they should be the place you want to spend the most time in because– you do. When we purchased this home the kitchen was our most loathed room. Time had taken its toll and everything needed replacing. That’s just a fact of homeownership-things wear out no matter how much you take care of them. Our family’s busy lifestyle did not allow for the kitchen to be so crippling as far as efficiency, cleanliness, and overall function. It became a much needed total gut job renovation more quickly than we had anticipated.
We moved knowing that the home had its flaws but you never really understand what those are until after you have lived with them… There was a massive list of deficiencies, but I don’t want to dwell on the past. I am here to celebrate the future and what this kitchen, this home will hold. I am so thankful for a husband that did almost all the work himself and brought my design concept to life with our modestly small budget.
Here is what we moved into.
Here is the AFTER.
Everything was totally replaced, nothing stayed and we were able to change the layout slightly to make it more functional. We managed to do this entire renovation ourselves with some help from friends and of course an electrician. The best part? It was way less than the national average… I’m talking waaaay less! Granted, we just finished and we started in January. There is still some decorating to do. But, we are so happy with how everything has turned out!
I hope this post inspires you to take a leap if you are contemplating renovations. Know that it’s not ever easy but it is always well worth it! I plan to post more about different aspects of this room and how you can implement some of these ideas for yourself. I still have some decorating and finishing touches, that I will share later, but we are LOVING our kitchen! I can’t wait to give you more details in later posts.
